Record Number of Participants Highlight 2014 AO Cross Country Championships

Courtesy Niagara Sport Commission:

Finishers from 2014 AO XC ChampsWhile the weather was cold, the spirits remained high and the athletes remained focused as the 2014 Athletics Ontario Cross Country Championships were an overwhelming success. Taking place on November 16 at the beautiful Firemen’s Park in Niagara Falls, this highly anticipated event was well-represented across Ontario and will certainly be a benchmark for future provincial championships. The event, which was executed through a partnership between the Niagara Sport Commission and the Niagara Olympic Club, was special in many respects, not the least of which was due to the record number of participants who took to the course. Among the record-setting 976 entries, there were some clear standout performances across all ages and distances, highlighting the incredible distance running talent that resides in Ontario.

For all of the award winners, their victories proved even more special as Canadian Olympian Mohammed Ahmed was on-site to present the awards. Not only does Mohammed have great ties to the sport, competing at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, but he also has fond memories of the host facility, Firemen’s Park, where he won an OFSSA Gold Medal.

Time for an App don’t you agree?

The Niagara Sport Commission (NSC) has by no means been asleep at the switch when it comes to working with us to make this year’s AO Cross Country Championships a thing of beauty, always remembered.
And to improve the experience of everyone involved, they have developed a FREE, downloadable App (iOS and Android).
Here are a few basic screen shots. We encourage you to take a closer look on your mobile. Go on, just do it…

More content will continue to be added as we get closer to “the weekend”.
Let us know if you have additional requirements / suggestions / comments.
It’s a “first” for NSC and for NOC.

It’s that time again…and we’re all running, one way or the other

Cross-Country SantasFrom the Board Members of Niagara Olympic Club:

We want to wish all our Member Athletes, Shoetag Athletes, Volunteers, Parents, Guardians, Coaches, Running Clubs against whom we compete, Niagara Schools and Universities that use our facilities every year, our Sponsors, Journalists who follow us, alumni who stay in touch, our friends at the Niagara Sport Commission, and the City Of St. Catharines who are generous in support of our goals in so many ways, very Happy and Relaxing Holidays.

It’s been a banner year for our Club in many ways. If you have particular highlights on which you’d like us to dwell in these Posts, please let us know.

At the risk of sounding like a pitch from U.S. Public Television, next year we’ll be campaigning for direct sponsorship from local businesses, in exchange for high quality exposure within our considerable Niagara reach, and beyond, provincially. We have several capital improvements planned, that will take significant funding, and will result in safer, enhanced facilities for our Members, Spectators, and all who’ll be associated with our Club. In parallel, we’ll be on an aggressive recruitment drive to expand our Membership, opening new competitive, social and educational opportunities for our athletes.

Please take some time over the holidays to consider how you can help us achieve our goals, and let us know, or ask questions anytime.

Thank you.

November’s Lament turns to Smiles…

Three winters cold and grey --
And then it's not so long to go
