AO 10000m Track Championships set to take place this Sunday

From Athletics Ontario:

London Runner Distance Club will be hosting the AO 10,000m Track Championships this Sunday May 5 at the TD-Waterhouse Stadium at Western University in London, ON. This will be the 8th year that London Runner will be hosting the AO/OTFA 10,000m Championships and this is the largest field during that time, and may prove to be the strongest.
All three 2012 AO 10,000m Champions return: Sami Jibril, Leslie Sexton, and Dominique Alagnon. Jibril recently won the Harry’s Spring Run-Off 8k in Toronto, while Sexton had a strong showing (34:18) at the Vancouver Sun Run 10k.
Additionally, there are 3 Quebec athletes from the Montreal Olympic Club, who came down to compete in the Team Challenge that required a minimum 3 athletes with 1 of each gender; others contenders in the Team Challenge are Athletics Toronto (the favourites!) and London Runner, who will field both an A and B team.

RECORDS
Canadian Records

The women’s 4×800-metres relay team broke a ten year old Canadian record last weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The record which was set in 2003 stood at 8:28.55. On April 27 the team of Melissa Bishop with the Ottawa Lions of Eganville, Ont., Karine Belleau-Béliveau with Les Vainqueurs of Montreal, Que., Diane Cummins (unattached) of Victoria, B.C., and Lemlem Bereket Ogbasilassie with Saint Laurent Sélect of Montreal, Que., set a new Canadian record time of 8:14.85. Of note Diane Cummins was a member of the team which set the previous mark in 2003 as well as coach Heather Hennigar who guided the women at Penn Relays.

In the junior women’s pole vault Alysha Newman with London Legion Track and Field Alliance of Delaware, Ont., equaled the Canadian junior record of 4.20 metres at the Sea Ray Relays on April 13 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Alysha tied the mark set by Gabriella Duclos-Lasnier in 2007.

Niki Oudenaarden with Capital City Track Club of St. Albert, Alta., broke the Canadian junior record in the heptathlon for the second time this season. Niki bettered the Canadian mark of 5688 points set by Jessica Zelinka in 2000 by registering a score of 5716 points. Then on April 18 at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnit, California Niki bettered it again with 5774 points.

Get Problem Reports to the Right Person in the Right Department

PSR_MAPWith Spring here to stay (any bets?), we’re introducing a 3rd Party system for capturing Complaints, Problems, Information Requests and Suggestions. It runs on any computing device with a browser, including smartphones.

You’ll find a “Report It Now” image on the left column of each page on this website, just below the main menus. Click on it to open a new browser tab and follow the simple prompts.

(Mandatory) Choose one from a series of “Categories”, then select the service “Type” that most closely fits what you want to report. These Categories and Types are chosen to suit the NOC “family”. See the last paragraph below for a longer list.

(Mandatory) Use the Google maps feature to pinpoint the right location. If you are using a smartphone with GPS, it’ll take your current location if that’s appropriate.

(Optional) Take/Upload appropriate photo images that will help Service Provider Staff to address your request more quickly and effectively.

Add descriptive information as required. If you’d like a phone call back, then leave your name and phone number here.

Submit your Service Request and you’ll be asked for your email address, so that the Service Provider can send you a link to keep you up to date with the Service Request status, as it’s dealt with. Don’t worry, your email is not disclosed to the Service Provider, so that you can stay anonymous while staying in touch.

PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T “play” with the system by submitting bogus Service Requests, as it is “live”. Service Providers include the City of St. Catharines, the Niagara Region, and other lower tier Niagara Municipalities, Utilities, Humane Societies, etc. The last thing they need is to receive bogus requests which waste time, money, and impact taxes.

Note: If you don’t see the Categories or service Types that you need, you can access a much more comprehensive list by closing the “Create Service Request” overlay window without submitting the Service Request, then click on the main page (Public Service Request), and you’ll get a “Public” page with many more options.

Important: Ticks found at Westpark

Sharon Shares:

I was made aware that one of our athletes came home with ticks after practice. I have left a message with Environmental Health at Niagara Region.

This link provides information from the NR.

We strongly recommend that kids do not sit in the grass. Yuk!!

If you find a tick on the body, remove with tweezers. Keep the tick in a small container and take it to the Niagara Region Health Department, where it will be identified and tested if necessary.

Wash the bite site with soap and water.
